What’s happening this week? Green Bay vs. Houston. That’s what!
Football is finally back in Wisconsin with the Packers first preseason game on Thursday, August 8 against the Houston Texans. Click here to look for tickets to the game.
Who to watch:
- Rashaan Gary: The Packers first first-round pick in this year’s draft when he was picked with the 12th overall selection. Gary crushed it in the combines and continues to impress through training camp.
- Matt LaFleur: Our new head coach will be under the spotlight as we get our first chance to see him at the helm during a game. Will LaFleur bring more creativity and acumen to our offensive play calling? Will Aaron Rodgers fall in line? Time will tell.
This game marks the 70th anniversary for the Upper Midwest Shrine Game. Green Bay is 36-30-3 all-time in the Shrine Game. Every year, the Packers donate a percentage of the gate to the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Chicago. The Shriners’ facilities provide specialized care to children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal-cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, regardless of the families’ ability to pay. In his first season leading the Packers, Vince Lombardi made an agreement with George Halas to play in the Shrine Game annually. Green Bay and Chicago played each preseason at County Stadium from 1959-73.
